Suvorexant
**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** An orally bioavailable antagonist of the orexin receptors orexin receptor type 1 (OX1R) and orexin receptor type 2 (OX2R), that can be used for the treatment of insomnia. Upon oral administration, suvorexant targets and binds to the orexin receptors OX1R and OX2R. This blocks the binding of the neuropeptides orexin-A and orexin-B to OX1R and OX2R, and prevents wakefulness that results from orexin signaling.
**Synonyms:** - Belsomra - MK-4305 - SUVOREXANT
