**Semantic type:** Organic Chemical|Pharmacologic Substance

**Definition:** An indolinone-based small molecule selective tyrosine kinase inhibitor with potential antineoplastic activity. SU5402 blocks the activities of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors (VEGFR) and fibroblast growth factor 1 (FGFR1) via competing with ATP for the specific binding site within the catalytic domain of these receptors. This agent was shown to inhibit cell growth, decrease cell viability in dose-dependent manner, and induce apoptosis.

**Synonyms:** - 3-[(3-(2-carboxyethyl)-4-methylpyrrol-2-yl)methylene]-2-indolinone - SU 5402
