SARS-CoV-2 Spike Protein DNA Vaccine GX-19
**Semantic type:** Immunologic Factor|Nucleic Acid, Nucleoside, or Nucleotide|Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A vaccine consisting of DNA plasmid encoding the severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) surface antigen spike (S) protein, with potential immunizing activity against SARS-CoV-2. Upon administration of the SARS-CoV-2 S-protein DNA vaccine GX-19 via intramuscular injection followed by electroporation (EP), the DNA plasmids enter the cells and the cells produce the SARS-CoV-2 S protein. This may activate both humoral and cellular immune responses which may result in protection against SARS-CoV-2 infection. S-protein, usually found on the surface of SARS-CoV-2, plays an essential role in the infection pathway of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
