Anti-SARS-CoV-2 Polyclonal Antibodies XAV-19
**Semantic type:** Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein|Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A preparation of hyperimmune heterologous swine glyco-optimized humanized polyclonal antibodies directed against the spike (S) protein of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), that can potentially be used for immunization and protection against Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Upon administration of anti-SARS-CoV-2 polyclonal antibodies XAV-19, the antibodies specifically target and bind to the SARS-CoV-2 S protein, thereby blocking viral attachment and entry into human cells and may thereby neutralize SARS-CoV-2. This may slow the progression of the disease and accelerate recovery, and may potentially provide temporary protection against infection with SARS-CoV-2. S-protein, usually found on the surface of SARS-CoV-2, plays an essential role in the infection pathway of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
