Beremagene Geperpavec
**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A non-replicative herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) encoding collagen alpha-1(VII) chain (COL7A1), that can be used for the treatment of wounds in patients with dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB) with mutation(s) in the COL7A1 gene. Upon topical application to the wounds, beremagene geperpavec can transduce both keratinocytes and fibroblasts. Following entry into the cells, molecules of human collagen type VII (COL7) are produced and form anchoring fibrils, which hold the epidermis and dermis together and maintain the integrity of the skin. Patients with autosomal dominant DEB have lower than normal functional anchoring fibrils, and patients with autosomal recessive DEB have no functional anchoring fibrils.
