Tempol-containing MBM-02

**Definition:** An orally bioavailable gelatin capsule-based formulation containing tempol, a hydrophilic piperidine nitroxide, with potential chemo/radioprotective and antioxidant activities. Upon oral administration of MBM-02, tempol, being a free radical compound, may be able to protect cells against the damaging effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS), upon exposure to ionizing radiation and oxidative stress. MBM-02 may selectively protect normal tissue from chemotherapy- and radiation-induced toxicities. Tempol is in its protective form in oxygenated cells and is in its unprotective form in the hypoxic tumor microenvironment (TME).
