**Definition:** An integrated system for assessing the quality of life of cancer patients participating in clinical trials and other types of research. It incorporates five functional scales: Physical, Role, Cognitive, Emotional, and Social Functioning; three symptom scales: Fatigue, Pain, and Nausea/Vomiting; a Global Health Status/QoL scale; and six single item scales: Dyspnea, Insomnia, Appetite Loss, Constipation, Diarrhea, and Financial Difficulties.
