**Definition:** Describes the recurrence rate of new brain metastases after initial treatment with radiosurgery. Brain metastasis velocity is calculated by dividing the cumulative number of new brain metastases after initial radiosurgery by the time in years since first radiosurgery. It is being employed as a tool to differentiate patients requiring salvage whole brain radiation from those where stereotactic radiosurgery is appropriate.
