SORT1 wt Allele
**Semantic type:** Gene or Genome
**Definition:** Human SORT1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 1p13.3 and is approximately 88 kb in length. This allele, which encodes sortilin protein, plays a role in protein trafficking and neuroactive peptide-dependent signaling. The minor allele for a noncoding polymorphism in the promoter for this gene creates a CCAAT/enhancer binding protein transcription factor binding site and may result in increased hepatic expression of the encoded protein, decreased circulating cholesterol and decreased risk for myocardial infarction.
