Cancer Cell Metabolism Modulator OMT-111
**Semantic type:** Organic Chemical|Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A cancer cell metabolism modulator, with potential antineoplastic activity. Upon administration, OMT-111 inhibits pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase (PDH), resulting in the activation of the citric acid cycle in mitochondria, which leads to the degradation of hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF1A). This may result in decreased expression of HIF1A downstream target genes important to tumor growth and survival, a reduction in tumor cell proliferation, and the induction of tumor cell apoptosis. OMT-111 may stimulate apoptosis in cancer cells by restoring normal mitochondrial-induced apoptotic signaling.
**Synonyms:** - OMT 111 - OMT-111 - OMT111
