Anti-mucin-1/PE Immunoconjugate BM7PE

**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance

**Definition:** An immunoconjugate containing BM7, a murine monoclonal antibody directed against the human tumor-associated antigen (TAA) mucin-1 (MUC1; MUC-1) covalently linked to the bacterial toxin Pseudomonas exotoxin A (PE), with potential antitumor activity. Upon administration of BM7PE, the antibody moiety targets and binds to MUC1. In turn, the PE moiety inhibits protein synthesis via modifying translation elongation factor 2 (EF-2), thereby causing apoptosis and inhibiting tumor cell growth and proliferation in MUC1-overexressing cancer cells. MUC1, a type I transmembrane protein, is overexpressed in a variety of tumor types. It plays an important role in cancer progression and metastasis.

**Synonyms:** - Anti-MUC1/PE BM7PE - BM7 PE - BM7-PE - BM7PE - Immunotoxin BM7PE
