**Definition:** Human CPN1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 10q24.2 and is approximately 40 kb in length. This allele, which encodes carboxypeptidase N catalytic chain protein, plays a role in the deactivation of circulating bioactive peptides. Mutation of the gene is associated with carboxypeptidase N deficiency.
