Delayed-phase Contrast Enhancement Magnetic Resonance Imaging

**Semantic type:** Diagnostic Procedure

**Definition:** A magnetic resonance (MR) imaging technique used to enhance the capability of detecting anomalies by administering intravenous contrast then allowing for a delay of several minutes before imaging in order to maximize the contrast difference between normal and affected tissue. Imaging too early after contrast administration may lead to overestimation of affected tissue due to insufficient washout of contrast whereas imaging too late may lead to excessive washout and poor signal-to-noise ratio.

**Synonyms:** - Delayed Phase Contrast Enhancement Magnetic Resonance Imaging - Late Phase Contrast Injection - Late Phase Contrast Injection Magnetic Resonance Imaging
