**Definition:** A variant lineage of SARS coronavirus 2 where the following variations in the spike glycoprotein sequence have been identified: deletions of the amino acids at positions 69, 70 and 144 and amino acid substitutions N501Y, A570D, D614G, P681H, T716I, S982A and D1118H. The substitutions E484K, S494P and K1191N have also been detected in some but not all sequences for this lineage.
