Vilamakitug

**Semantic type:** Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein|Immunologic Factor|Pharmacologic Substance

**Definition:** A human immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4) monoclonal antibody directed against the inflammatory cytokine interleukin-1 alpha (IL1a), with potential antineoplastic, anti-cachectic and anti-angiogenic activities. Upon administration, vilamakitug targets, binds to, and inhibits the activity of IL1a. This may inhibit IL1a-mediated tumorigenesis, angiogenesis and cachexia. IL1a, an inflammatory mediator expressed on monocytes, platelets and overexpressed by certain tumors, plays a key role in the promotion of tumor cell growth, metastasis and invasion. In addition, IL1a mediates metabolic activity, which may cause fatigue, anorexia, and anxiety.
