Spiked-in Standard

**Definition:** A control sample that contains one or more materials with standardized molecular sizes or weights and/or known concentrations or reaction intensities and can be either added to or run at the same time as one or more experimental samples. The characteristics of the spiked-in standard can be measured and plotted on a graph. The observed characteristics for the experimental sample(s) can be quantified if they are within the boundaries of the curve generated for the standard.
