Plutavimab
**Semantic type:** Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein|Immunologic Factor|Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A neutralizing human monoclonal antibody directed against the spike (S) protein of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), that can potentially be used for immunization against Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Upon administration, plutavimab specifically targets and binds to the S1 subunit of the SARS-CoV-2 S protein, thereby blocking viral attachment and entry into human cells and may thereby neutralize SARS-CoV-2. This may slow the progression of the disease and accelerate recovery, and may potentially provide temporary protection against infection with SARS-CoV-2. S protein, usually found on the surface of SARS-CoV-2, plays an essential role in the infection pathway of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The potency of STI-2020 was enhanced by an affinity maturation process.
