CA1 wt Allele

**Definition:** Human CA1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 8q21.2 and is approximately 51 kb in length. This allele, which encodes carbonic anhydrase 1 protein, is involved in the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide. Aberrant overexpression of the gene is associated with diabetic retinopathy.
