Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emissions

**Definition:** A neurologic test that provides a preneural, noninvasive assessment of cochlear function. Distortion-product otoacoustic emissions are generated in the cochlea in response to two tones of a given frequency and sound pressure level presented in the ear canal and are an objective indicator of normally functioning cochlea outer hair cells.
