Tourniquet Test

**Definition:** A method of assessing capillary fragility that is used in the diagnosis of hemorrhagic fevers. After taking a blood pressure measurement, the cuff is inflated to a point midway between the assessed systolic and diastolic pressures and maintained for five minutes; the cuff is then released and, after two minutes, the number of petechiae below the antecubital fossa are counted.
