**Definition:** Human GLIS1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 1p32.3 and is approximately 233 kb in length. This allele, which encodes zinc finger protein GLIS1, is involved in the maintenance of multipotent cells. A translocation t(1;2)(p32;q13) which fuses this gene and the PAX8 gene is associated with thyroid hyalinizing trabecular tumor (HTT).
