**Definition:** A second-generation photodynamic therapy (PDT)-based agent, with potential antineoplastic activity upon PDT. Upon administration, photosensitizer agent REM-001 specifically targets, binds to and is taken up by tumor cells. Upon exposure to light, REM-001 becomes activated locally and may induce apoptosis and destroy the tumor cells.
