**Definition:** Human ABCA3 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 16p13.3 and is approximately 65 kb in length. This allele, which encodes phospholipid-transporting ATPase ABCA3 protein, is involved in ATP-dependent phospholipid and xenobiotic transport. Mutation of the gene is associated with pulmonary surfactant metabolism dysfunction type 3.
