**Definition:** A post-translationally modified form of 40S ribosomal protein S6 (RPS6) where one or more of serine residues are phosphorylated. Increased levels of phosphorylation of serine-235, -236, -240 and -244, which are located in the carboxy-terminal region of the RPS6 protein, can be correlated with increased cell proliferation.
