**Definition:** A formaldehyde metabolite and DNA adduct comprised of the N6-hydroxymethylated form of the purine deoxyadenosine (dAdo). The concentration of N6-hydrxoxymethyl-dAdo in either leukocytes or cells derived from the oral cavity may be directly correlated to levels of formaldehyde exposure, which is correlated with exposure to carcinogenic N-nitrosomethyl compounds.
