**Semantic type:** Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein

**Definition:** A post-translationally modified form of signal transducer and activator of transcription 1-alpha/beta protein (STAT1) that has been phosphorylated at tyrosine (Y; Tyr) residue 701. Janus kinase (JAK)-mediated phosphorylation of STAT1-Y701 promotes the formation of STAT1 dimers, which translocate into the nucleus and induce STAT1-dependent gene expression.
