Veno-Venous Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation
**Semantic type:** Therapeutic or Preventive Procedure
**Definition:** Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) to provide adequate gas exchange, usually in respiratory failure/ARDS. The access cannula is usually placed in the inferior vena cava via the femoral vein. The tip of the return cannula is placed close to the right atrium, and it may be placed via the femoral or internal jugular vein.
