**Definition:** A percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) that is performed as soon as possible because of substantial concerns that ongoing ischemia or infarction could lead to death. “As soon as possible” refers to a case of sufficient acuity that a scheduled case would be cancelled to perform this procedure immediately in the next available room during business hours, or the on-call team would be activated if this were to occur during off-hours.
