Methyl Bacteriopurpurinimide

**Definition:** A brain-penetrant bacteriochlorin analog and photosensitizer, with potential imaging and antineoplastic activities upon fluorescence imaging and fluorescence-guided photodynamic therapy (PDT) respectively. Upon administration, methyl bacteriopurpurinimide crosses the blood brain barrier (BBB) and is taken up by tumor cells. Upon clinical near-infrared (NIR) imaging, the tumor cells can be detected which allows for visualization of the tumor. Upon NIR PDT, the tumor cells are killed.
