Ametumumab

**Semantic type:** Amino Acid, Peptide, or Protein|Immunologic Factor|Pharmacologic Substance

**Definition:** A human recombinant immunoglobulin G1 (IgG1) monoclonal antibody directed against epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), with potential antineoplastic activity. Upon administration, ametumumab targets, binds to and prevents the activation of EGFR. This inhibits EGFR-mediated signaling and proliferation of EGFR-expressing tumor cells. In addition, ametumumab may induce antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC) and complement-dependent cytotoxicity (CDC) against EGFR-expressing tumor cells. EGFR, a member of the epidermal growth factor receptor family, is overexpressed on various tumor cell types.
