Pneumococcal 20-Valent Conjugate Vaccine

**Definition:** A pneumococcal conjugate vaccine containing 20 different strains of the bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae, that is used for the prevention of pneumococcal disease. The pneumococcal 20-valent conjugate vaccine contains capsular antigen polysaccharides derived from the S. pneumoniae serotypes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 8, 9V, 10A, 11A, 12F, 14, 15B, 18C, 19A, 19F, 22F, 23F, and 33F that are individually conjugated to a nontoxic diphtheria cross-reactive material 197 (CRM197) carrier protein. Upon intramuscular vaccination, pneumococcal 20-valent conjugate vaccine induces active immunization against 20 different serotypes of S. pneumoniae and protects against pneumococcal disease.
