**Definition:** A recombinant form of interferon alpha (IFNa), with immunostimulatory, antiviral and antineoplastic activities. Upon administration, interferon alpha-2c (IFNa-2c) targets and binds to specific cell-surface receptors, resulting in the transcription and translation of genes whose protein products mediate antiviral, antiproliferative, anticancer, and immune-modulating effects. This IFN variant has arginine at position 23 and position 34.
