Focal Cortical Dysplasia

**Definition:** A congenital cortical developmental abnormality characterized by focal architectural distortion of the cortical brain layers. It is associated with the presence of cytologic abnormalities including hypertrophic and dysmorphic neurons. It is caused by genetic or acquired factors and is often associated with epilepsy.
