**Definition:** Human MCIDAS wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 5q11.2 and is approximately 8 kb in length. This allele, which encodes multicilin protein, is involved in the regulation of genes that mediate the generation of multiciliated cells in respiratory epithelium. Mutation of the gene is associated with primary ciliary dyskinesia 42.
