Platelet-Derived Growth Factor

**Definition:** A family of growth factors that act as potent mitogens and are involved in the stimulation of angiogenesis. There are four members of this family (platelet-derived growth factor A, B, C and D) that are characterized by a core motif of eight cysteines. They bind to their cognate receptor tyrosine kinases (platelet-derived growth factor receptor family) as homodimers or heterodimers to stimulate signaling.
