**Definition:** Human SEPSECS wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 4p15.2 and is approximately 41 kb in length. This allele, which encodes O-phosphoseryl-tRNA(Sec) selenium transferase protein, plays a role in the synthesis of selenocysteinyl-tRNA, which is essential for synthesis of proteins containing selenocysteine. Mutation of the gene is associated with pontocerebellar hypoplasia type 2D.
