KMT2A/GAS7 Fusion Gene

**Definition:** A rare fusion gene that results from a cryptic chromosomal translocation t(11;17)(q23;p13) occurring with del(11)(q23) that fuses exon 7 or 8 of the KMT2A gene upstream of exon 2 of the GAS7 gene. This chromosomal rearrangement may be associated with myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), certain leukemias and treatment-related acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
