**Definition:** Human PRDM8 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 4q21.21 and is approximately 20 kb in length. This allele, which encodes PR domain zinc finger protein 8, plays a role in rod photoreceptor survival, histone methylation, transcriptional regulation of steroidogenesis, neuronal development and neuronal differentiation. Mutations in the gene are associated with progressive myoclonic epilepsy 10.
