**Definition:** Serine hydroxymethyltransferase, mitochondrial (504 aa, ~56 kDa) is encoded by the human SHMT2 gene. This protein is involved in mitochondrial translation and catalyzing the reversible conversion of serine and tetrahydrofolate to glycine and 5,10-methylene tetrahydrofolate.
