This allele, which encodes voltage-dependent T-type calcium channel subunit alpha-1H protein, plays a role in transient (T-type) calcium ion transport. Mutations in the gene are associated with susceptibility to idiopathic generalized or childhood absence epilepsy 6 and familial hyperaldosteronism type 2.
