Chloramphenicol Succinate
**Semantic type:** Antibiotic|Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** The succinate sester form of chloramphecol, a nitrobenzene derivate and broad-spectrum antibiotic with antibacterial activity. Chloramphenicol succinate reversibly binds to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, thereby interfering with peptidyl transferase activity in the elongation process of protein synthesis. As a result, this agent prevents bacterial cell growth.
**Synonyms:** - CHLORAMPHENICOL SUCCINATE - Chloramphenicol Hemisuccinate - Succinic Acid Hydrogen 1-((2R,3R)-3-(4-Nitrophenyl)-2-(dichloroacetylamino)-3-hydroxypropan-1-yl) Ester
