NUDT21-targeted siRNA

**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance

**Definition:** A formulation composed of small-interfering RNAs (siRNAs) directed against the oncogene NUDT21 (cleavage factor Im complex 25 KDa subunit; cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor subunit 5; CFIM25; CPSF5; nudix hydrolase 21), with potential antineoplastic activity. Upon administration of NUDT21-targeted siRNA, the siRNA binds to NUDT21 mRNA, which may result in the inhibition of translation and expression of the NUDT21 protein and leads to apoptosis and growth inhibition in tumor cells that overexpress NUDT21. NUDT21, an enzyme that belongs to the Nudix family of hydrolases, plays a key role in growth and metastasis in a variety of cancers. NUDT21 regulates the 3'UTR plus tail of the protein structural maintenance of chromosomes protein 1A (SMC1A), which plays a key role in tumor development of certain types of cancer.

**Synonyms:** - NUDT21 siRNA - NUDT21-targeting siRNA
