This allele, which encodes lipopolysaccharide-induced tumor necrosis factor-alpha factor protein, plays a role in the modulation of cytokine gene expression, endosomal protein trafficking and targeting proteins for lysosomal degradation. Mutations in the gene are associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1C.
