**Definition:** Human LRIF1 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 1p13.3 and is approximately 89 kb in length. This allele, which encodes ligand-dependent nuclear receptor-interacting factor 1 protein, plays a role in the compaction of heterochromatin, the inactivation of one copy of chromosome X in females and the repression of ligand-dependent activation of nuclear hormone receptors. Mutations in the gene are associated with digenic facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy 3.
