Radiosensitizer VS-101
**Semantic type:** Organic Chemical|Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** An orally bioavailable inhibitor of survivin and generator of reactive oxygen species (ROS), with potential radiosensitizing activity. Upon oral administration, radiosensitizer VS-101 inhibits the activity of survivin, a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) family. This may lead to restoration of the apoptotic process in cancer cells, thereby lowering tumor radioresistance. In addition, radiosensitizer VS-101 increases the generation of ROS. This may induce ROS-mediated DNA damage in cancer cells upon radiation, leading to tumor cell lysis.
**Synonyms:** - VS 101 - VS-101 - VS101
