Faecalibacterium prausnitzii-containing Bacterial Strain Formulation EXL01
**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** An orally bioavailable gastro-resistant capsule-based formulation composed of a single-strain of the naturally occurring and live gut bacteria Faecalibacterium prausnitzii (F. prausnitzii), with potential immunomodulating and antineoplastic-enhancing activities. Upon oral administration, of F. prausnitzii-containing bacterial strain formulation EXL01, the gastro-resistant capsules allow for targeted delivery in the intestines and release F. prausnitzii. The release of F. prausnitzii increases levels of this bacteria in the intestines, which restores normal, healthy intestinal levels, and improves and restores the balance of the gut microbiome. This may enhance anti-inflammatory activities and activate the immune system. Specifically, EXL01 may prevent inflammation, increase sensitivity to immunotherapy, and improve T-cell-mediated anti-tumor immune responses. Low levels of F. prausnitzii are seen in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases, Crohn's disease, Clostridioides difficile and other infections, and certain types of cancers.
