Staphylococcus epidermidis Strain Topical Ointment ATR04-484
**Semantic type:** Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A topical ointment formulation comprised of an engineered Staphylococcus epidermidis strain SE484, derived from a healthy human volunteer, for the potential treatment of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitor-associated dermal toxicities. Upon topical administration, S. epidermidis strain topical ointment ATR04-484 decreases S. aureus colonization and inhibits growth of both methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and methicillin-sensitive (MSSA) S. aureus. In addition, ATR04-484 decreases interleukin-36gamma (IL-36g) levels and inhibits IL-36g cytokine signaling. Altogether, this may decrease inflammation and treat skin rash. Dermal toxicities are common adverse effects of EGFR inhibitors and are associated with increased levels of both S. aureus and IL-36g.
