**Definition:** An inactive, long-lasting metabolite of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the psychoactive component of cannabis. After consumption of cannabis, THC is metabolized to the active metabolite 11-hydroxy-THC (11-OH-THC) by liver enzymes and converted to 11-Nor-9-carboxy-delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol (11-COOH-THC) through oxidation in the liver. 11-COOH-THC can be used as a biomarker for THC exposure and 11-COOH-THC can be found in urine, blood, and hair.
