Ex Vivo Expanded CD34+ Hematopoietic Stem Cells
**Semantic type:** Cell|Pharmacologic Substance
**Definition:** A preparation of cluster of differentiation 34 (CD34)-positive human hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) expanded ex vivo, that can be used for transplantation purposes. CD34-positive HSCs are isolated from human blood upon apheresis and are expanded ex vivo. Upon transplantation with the ex vivo expanded CD34+ HSCs, these cells migrate to the bone marrow to divide and mature. The mature cells are released into the bloodstream, where some circulate and others migrate to tissue sites, and differentiate into a variety of cell types. This improves and/or restores blood cell counts and function.
