**Definition:** Human CHST6 wild-type allele is located in the vicinity of 16q23.1 and is approximately 23 kb in length. This allele, which encodes carbohydrate sulfotransferase 6 protein, plays a role in biosynthesis of keratan sulfate in the cornea. Mutations in the gene are associated with macular corneal dystrophy.
